DOM Marketing Teams with Shine
DOM Marketing is once again teaming up with their friends at Shine to take part in the 2017 “This is Me” virtual balloon race.
Shine supports teenagers with spina bifida and hydrocephalus who often feel isolated and experience difficulties with their disabilities during these transition years.
By the age of 11 many young people will have already endured multiple surgical operations, often involving brain surgery and mobility challenges. Alongside all the normal teenage issues, they may be acclimatising to a wheelchair for the first time, or gradually coming to realise that they are ‘different’ from their friends.
The This is Me Club
Active since 2013, the charities “This Is Me” club has grown to over 1,400 members who all play an active part in communicating with each other, mainly via the Facebook page. Professional support is also there to help them. On joining the club each member receives a membership pack, a regular newsletter. Shine also organise various events specifically tailored for the needs of young people.
The Virtual Balloon Race
The balloon race is a fun way to make a serious difference. Once a balloon has been brought you can view it online and personalise it. Then when the race starts you can follow its fortunes as it flies across landmarks and even boosts its chances of winning through various social media platforms!
The race will be run over the course of a week and will be launched from The Gabba cricket ground in Brisbane on the 23rd November to coincide with the first day of the first Ashes test cricket match between Australia and England.
